I was born and raised in Poland. From early childhood, I demonstrated an interest in nature. My educational background is in Forestry, but upon coming to the United States I began a career as a land surveyor. Upon retirement, I became increasingly involved in photography traveling with my camera on back country roads capturing variations in light, color and mood of the landscapes that surround us.

I am a member of the Polish Society of Artists. I have exhibited my works, both individually and as part of a group, in various venues, including the State Capitol in Hartford, the Sloper-Wesoly Heritage House in New Britain, the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol, the Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield, the Burlington Public Library and at the Kurier Plus Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Most recently, I had a private showing at a fundraiser for “The Magic is Back at Harkness Park”. What I love about photography is that it allows me to express my innermost feelings through my observations of life and nature.

Veralyn Davee Quilting

October 2nd through October 30th.

Veralyn Davee has been quilting for 35 years and has been a ribbon winner in the Michigan State Fair and local and regional quilt shows in Michigan and Connecticut.

She enjoys the fabric/color selection and design process of both traditional blocks and original pieces. Most piecing is done by machine, then quilted by machine or hand; she also does hand-applique work.

She has studied the history and development of quilting as an American Craft and art form and has done lectures and trunk shows over the years. She feels one of her strengths is the use of color in her work. It is what she is most drawn to for inspiration.

Currently living in Kent and working as an audiologist at Hearing Aid Specialists in New Milford for the last ll years, she is active in two area guilds--Mountain Laurel Quilters in New Milford and Southford Falls Quilt Guild in Middlebury. She worked in the Brookfield school system for thirty two years as a teacher and curriculum coordinator. She co-authored a teacher resource book, Living with the Land, published in 1998. With her husband, Timothy, she has been a New Milford resident for more than thirty years. She published a 2009 calendar, Lighthouse Landscapes, from her original paintings. She takes classes with two prominent local artists, Alisyn Hamilton and Anda Styler. Mary can be reached by email at: marysgates@gmail.com.

Rationale for this show:

For centuries, artists have visited museums and galleries to study the works of other artists. Painting or drawing the works of others expands artistic vision in a concrete manner.
For this show, I have interpreted favorite works of some well known artists. I have included original works that illustrate the effect these artists have had on my work. For example, I have always been drawn to the strong use of color in my work, as have the artists I modeled for this show. Primarily I work in acrylics, but occasionally do pieces in oil, pastel, or water color.

Christina Falise Chernobyl, 25 Years After

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 134px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gC1IGb_OyR8/TdEx-vGb9SI/AAAAAAAAAu4/zb07GGTOwXI/s200/doll%2Band%2Bgas%2Bmask%2B5x7%2B100dpi.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5607317964918093090" />
I have been photographing the world around me for almost as long as I can remember. Growing up in New York City, my
single working mother only rarely took out her camera. Holidays and special events were the only times that the old Agfa
made its appearance, and film would often remain in that camera for several years before being developed. Seeing those rare
snapshots for the first time years later, I found them somewhat unsettling. Those people in that frame seemed lost. They were
permanently frozen in emulsion from 1972. I was fascinated by the images and by the gulf of time which lay between us, and I
realized that photographs have a unique ability. They can make the temporary permanent.
After being introduced to the darkroom in a fifth grade photo class, my love of photographs only grew as I did. Using a beat up
old 35mm camera, I would wander the streets of New York after school photographing anything that caught my interest,
and very often those images were of ignored or hidden places and people. These are subjects which I find I return to again
and again. While my equipment and experience have grown and evolved over the years, my reasons for photographing have
not changed all that much. Regardless of the subject, I have always worked to capture that elusive feeling I had as a child
looking at the old snapshots.
I prefer to work with 6x6cm black and white film and make my prints in a wet darkroom. I feel that making my photographs
this way keeps me closer to the original source, and find the square format both challenging and rewarding. When working in
this medium I never crop an image, preferring to always print full-frame. In recent years, however, I have come to embrace
digital media as well. It allows for a certain spontaneity and flexibility that the film process lacks. Regardless of the format, I
still start with the basic process of recording light exactly as it existed at one specific moment in time. For me, it is this
characteristic which makes photography so unique and important. That singular act of framing and capture sits in diametric
opposition to the very nature of time. It makes the temporary permanent.
It is this very quality of photography which allows me to explore the themes of life, death and our world. The more I work,
and the older I get, the more I want to study and understand the transient nature of human life and its influence upon our
planet.

Melanie Cilfone Photography

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 131px; height: 200px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/TSoY0z7BRlI/AAAAAAAAAqE/i8MHiGIOFuY/s200/MelanieCilfoneexhibit%2Bsmaller.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5560283985512318546" />
\

Melanie Cilfone
“Ha”
The Breath of Life

One summer night, out on a flat headland, all but surrounded by the waters of the bay, the horizons were remote and distant rims on the edge of space. Millions of stars blazed in darkness, and on the far shore a few lights burned in cottages. Otherwise there was no reminder of human life. My companion and I were alone with the stars: the misty river of the Milky Way flowing across the sky, the patterns of the constellations standing out bright and clear, a blazing planet low on the horizon. It occurred to me that if this were a sight that could be seen only once in a century, this little headland would be thronged with spectators. But it can be see many scores of nights in any year, and so the lights burned in the cottages and the inhabitants probably gave not a thought to the beauty overhead; and because they could see it almost any night, perhaps they never will. ~Rachel Carson
I find that my job as an artist is to capture something ordinary, something everyday, in such a way that it is seen in a new light. To force people to stop and recognize what they take for granted, to find the underlying beauty and truth in my subjects, even if the beauty is plainly seen. There is a moment to be captured everywhere and I love to be able to hold that moment in time knowing that it never will really occur again, something will always be different. At that time, at that place, it has been captured and held exactly how it will always be.
In this particular body of work, I want to show these types of moments through photographs of my time on the islands of Hawaii. The islands hold their own particular magic and beauty that locals never take for granted. They appreciate all that has been given to them and find the breath of life, their ‘Ha’, within the land and sea that they see everyday. Locals live free and in the moment, taking it all in. I offer up to you as a challenge to find the beauty in your everyday, in the simple things in life. It’s there, if you stop long enough to open your eyes and look for it. Find your ‘Ha’.

Colin Harrison

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 156px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/TORnGSspltI/AAAAAAAAAos/3YgEKz5fG5w/s200/Colin%2BHarrison.bmp" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5540666799368541906" />

Colin Harrison

November 14th to January 9th

Lower level Gallery

Colin Harrison is a native of northern England and he lived for some thirty years in Brookfield. He developed an interest in art at a very early age, gaining recognition for his work in both grade school and high school. He kept his interest in art alive in his college years at Ohio State University and after he graduated. He mistakenly thought that advertising was the only practical way to utilize his artistic interests to make a living.

In 1958, during a six month stay in New York City, he met and befriended a master impressionist artist, Bernard Lennon. In l964, Richard quit his job in advertising and moved to Gaylordsville, Ct to study with Mr. Lennon and began his career as a professional artist. That year also marked the beginning of his participation in the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit (New York City) and the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival (Mystic, Ct). Throughout the years, he won many prizes in both shows including First Prize in Oils four times in the Mystic exhibition and Special Landscape Award at the Washington Square show. During those years he also participated in other group shows in the Northeast winning prizes several times in Newport, RI and once in Atlantic City, NJ.

Mr. Stalter paints his subjects on location finding inspiration from scenes throughout the Litchfield Hills and nearby New York State, within easy reach of his Gaylordsville home. He paints all four seasons at these locations and adds figures and still life painting done from life to his body of work. From the 1960's through the 1980's, he traveled yearly to Provincetown and Wellfleet on Cape Cod to capture the seaside light and subjects and visited there in 2007 to paint. Beginning in the 80's, he sought out the boat and water subjects on Mystic and Stonington, Ct. He still paints there two or three times a year.

Locally, many will remember Mr. Stalter for his helping to initiate an unsuccessful attempt to bring an art museum to New Milford.

Chris Osborne through August 29, 2010

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/TH0iyKtUNuI/AAAAAAAAAmc/V4SGCTDSI6I/s200/Chris+in+Westport.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5511599764234581730" />
www.ChrisOArt.com

Recipient of the 2007 National Society of Painters in Casein & Acrylic (NSPCA) Prize, the Classic Car Club of America 2003 Fine Art Award of Excellence, and the Glenmoor Gathering (Ohio) 2007 Best of Show award, Chris Osborne pays homage to the American automobile by way of the art of portraiture. “There are key things in American culture that absorb my attention, the fabulous cars of decades past, the colorful people who drove them, the Hollywood Golden Age, and the true American musical genres, Jazz & Blues. Any combination of these elements may appear in my work. After exhaustive factual research and the use of figurative models, I like to apply an imaginative view of history, bringing to the present a candid moment in time shared with the viewer.”

Raised in New Milford, Connecticut, Osborne received a BA in Art from Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson NY and an MFA in printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After an extended stay on Martha’s Vineyard in the 1970’s, she moved to New York City, working with legendary artist’s agent Jane Lander representing a group of illustrators with a preference toward fine art. This pivotal move guided Chris toward figurative drawing and painting, and in the mid-1980’s she left the agent profession to pursue art on her own. Over the decade of the 1990’s Chris supplemented her work by managing the Jazz & Blues department at Tower Records Lincoln Center, the largest retail record store in New York, which put her significantly in the midst of the music world. It was an experience that will forever enrich her painting, as she is currently working on a history of Jazz and a history of Blues in visual form, decade by decade, city by city, with the American automobile as a natural focal point.

Also, a painting of Jimi Hendrix with his 1969 Corvette Stingray is a current work in progress.

Chris has exhibited widely in galleries and art associations in the Northeast and New York City, along with invitational exhibits at annual Collector Car events such as the Kruse Auction in Auburn, Indiana, the Louisville Concours d’Elegance, the Hamptons Concours d’Elegance, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles, the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, the Fairfield County Concours d’Elegance, and the Classic Car Club of America annual gathering in Hickory Corners, Michigan. She was the CCCA poster artist for 2005. In April & May of 2006 the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and Kruse Museum in Indiana exhibited her work in a solo show. The Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists honored her with a 2010 Award of Merit.

Hidden Treasures Reprocessed

May 23, 2010 through July 11, 2010

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 133px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/S_rfvOJGKUI/AAAAAAAAAhw/beutCKtZC5g/s200/CRW_2767.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5474934299365353794" />

Photography Show by Edward Camden Fisher

E. He soon became fascinated with photography and nature, taking many photos on his frequent hiking and backpacking trips. He experimented with infrared abstracts and made many photos with what came to be called "light painting." Many of his infrared scenics have an "otherworldly quality" that makes portions of the image jump off the page.

Moving to Connecticut in l974, he joined the Silvermine Guild of Artists in New Canaan, Ct. where many of his works have been on display. He has spent the next 36 years photographing nature and scenics, up and down the east coast of the United States and the Rocky Mountains. Working primarily in 35 mm. he also uses 6x7 cm and 4x5 formats. He employs normal, macro and micro photography techniques and specializes in unusual angles and lighting.

Having made the change to digital, he enjoys taking advantage of the extreme details that the equipment affords. Many of his works not only include images taken with camers, but also with scanners that show detail that is usually invisible to an untrained eye.

Joe currently resides in New Milford with his wife and two children.

http://picasaweb.google.com/jgmoore404/JGMooreImagerySampler?feat=email#

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nmplartgallery.blogspot.com/2010/02/photography-by-jg-moore.html' title='Photography by J.G. Off stage, he has handled commissions for celebrity art pieces, museum wildlife renderings, and retail design.

If you want more:

As author, Mr. Hughes was recently represented on the Connecticut stage by the 2009 premiere of his new comedy See Dick...
In 2005 his puppet & people production of Ghost of a Chance was presented to critical and popular acclaim. Previous Connecticut productions include successful stage adaptations of The Picture of Dorian Gray and Frankenstein.

Growing up in and around NYC theater offered the opportunity to witness and learn from many of the best, on, off and backstage. The result of these opportunities ranged from founding several theater troupes to acting, directing, puppet design and performance, choreographing and teaching, set and scenic design, alongside many truly talented individuals. While the majority of the work occurred Off-B’way and Off-Off B’way, there were the periodic visits uptown.

During his "New York" years Mr. Hughes, as well as enjoying professional associations with a number of designers, performers, producers and playwrights, had the privilege of lending some of the latter a hand and an occasional word or two. Nowadays, non-ectoplasmic authorship has its rewards as well as risks, with one’s own, flesh and blood name sitting alongside the title. Next up, the finishing touches to a dark comedy titled, The Trinity Recruit.

http://overtheline.yolasite.com/

Judith Cerrato

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 145px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/SwR63cq4VBI/AAAAAAAAAYY/zeYtlyKyJOI/s200/cerrato+5.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405580545758876690" />

Judith Cerrato grew up in New Milford, Connecticut and has always enjoyed the outdoors and taking photos. She grew up on a cattle ranch in Montana then moved with her parents and siblings to Arizona. She graduated from the University of Arizona and Arizona State University with degrees in music.

In 1968 she joined the Peace Corps and spent time in Niger, West Africa. It was there that she really became serious about photography and found herself at ease totally immersed in a foreign culture. When all the black-and-white film she had taken in Africa was ruined by a commercial laboratory, she decided to study photography and become adept in every aspect. For that she moved to New York City to attend the New York Institute of Photography, hoping to become a fashion photographer. However, the institute was run by men who told her that only men could do fashion photography. Discourage in that ambition, she pursued a more accessible career as a wholesale travel agent.

On trips to South and Central America and Asia she did take numerous photos but always wondered what she should do with them. After a few more career changes, she decided to return to school for graduate work in anthropology. An exciting part of that endeavor was selecting a group of people to live among in order to study some interesting aspect of their society and culture. An article in the National Geographic drew her attention to Ladakh, a remote region in the Himalayas. Ladakh is populated predominantly by people of Tibetan stock practicing Tibetan Buddhism, though there is also a significant Muslim population. It is administered by India (as part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir) but borders Tibet, China, and Pakistan. Because India has fought wars with both Pakistan and China in this area, it was closed to foreigners for a number of years. It had only when recently opened to visitors when Abby made her first trip there.

She did this in 1982, with encouragement from an Indian educator. She traveled through Amritsar, Jammu, and Srinagar by train and bus, in order to acclimatize herself for the high elevation in Ladakh. However, while in Srinagar she contracted dengue fever. She was therefore delirious as she undertook what might have been the greatest adventure of her life. This was the bus trip over the Zoji pass in the westernmost range of the Trans Himalayas in a blinding snowstorm. The bus slipped and slid around hairpin turns, but she was barely aware of it. She was too weak even to get off the bus for lodging en route. Once in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, a local found her a room in a very primitive hotel where she remained in her sleeping bag for nearly two weeks, recovering from her illness.

Although this was not a very propitious beginning, Abby was befriended by individuals who helped her find a Ladakhi home to live in. She met more and more of these wonderful, generous, happy, and humorous people. Eventually she settled with a charming Christian family in a beautiful village not far from Leh, up a mountain valley above the Indus River and directly in view of the highest peaks in the Ladakhi Himalaya.

She was invited to attend many village functions and photographed them. Several villagers agreed to be her informants and her language teacher (Ladakhi is a Tibetan dialect). They soon realized that she really wanted to know everything about their society and particularly their rituals, e.g., births, marriages, funerals as well as seasonal rituals. She spent many days and nights observing and photographing these events and taking copious notes about everything.

She spent nearly two years studying Ladakhi social rituals that bind the villagers to one another to form a community. When she returned home her life here took over, and nothing was done with all the photographs she took. Unfortunately she had used cheap film that lost its integrity. As a result, now that she has begun to exhibit as a photographer, she has had to restore many of the negatives taken in Ladakh. I spent a lifetime searching for God and happiness. Was at the feet of top yogis, work for the top companies, raised a family and watched a very self-centered world that was all about "me". Finally God found me and stopped my life dead in it's track all the way down to living homeless in a Gospel Rescue Mission. There God became my true Father with a walking relationship filled with many miracles and amazing adventures. I will tell you this. That Jesus is real and very alive today. His witness can be seen all through this site. Today I consult to missions, raising a second family and worship in Brooklyn Tabernacle with every nation in the world. I will also tell you that I am nothing special, not even a professional photographer or writer, never had a lesson in either one. This is my witness so that you know that if you let God use you, your life will become an amazing adventure.

Brooklyn Tabernacle Learning CenterI love the people of Africa and Brooklyn. I see the the traditional purity of Godly work ethics and raising of their children. I Love the honest struggle of parents making a living, supporting children and praising God for it all. Something I feel modern America has so tragically lost. When God is in you heart you will fall in love in a new deep way with Him and your life will transform filled with His Grace and Mercy.

The boring details:

Richard Close, CEO The Chrysalis Campaign has 20 plus years as a visionary, strategic planner and consultant to the eLearning industry. With her husband, Timothy, she has been a New Milford resident for more than thirty years. She recently published a 2009 calendar, Lighthouse Landscapes, from her original paintings.

The strong use of color can be seen in Mary’s work. Two styles of painting that she has always been drawn to are Impressionism and primitive Americana. Some of her favorite artists are Van Gogh, Monet, Grandma Moses, and Charles Wysocki. She is most satisfied when her work makes viewers smile.

Mary works primarily in acrylics, but has used other media such as oils, pastels, water colors, and gouache. Some of her work is currently displayed at Building Block Art Supply and Gallery in Ridgefield, CT.

View slideshow

Lori Barker Art Show December 14th through January 17th, 2009

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 150px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/SUJzTQZPgVI/AAAAAAAAAOg/zj0dgJQNwlU/s200/DSCN8314.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278908487887192402" />

Art is my Church, Reiki is my Prayer

Lori's work is an imitation of her life, an ongoing collage, deep with excitement and spiritual mysteries. As a Reiki and Shamballa Master and therapeutic touch practitioner there is always the desire to explore the other side of matter and to express what the artist inside sees.

‘Using the right side of my brain, as an artist for 35 years, I speak to the left on fewer occasions now. Pictures form my logic, numbers become elements for collages and philosophical thoughts turn into hues of the palette. Much of my art is formed by dreams and executed by intuition. Angel photography dominates my mixed media engravings on metal but other techniques and images are filtering in when I least expect them.’
Photography, paint and unusual materials comprise the palette of Lori’s art. She has developed her style in manipulated Polaroid image transfers, emulsion transfers engraved photo transfers on metal and mixed media collage.

Lori is a former teacher and graduate of Southern Conn.

Chris has exhibited widely in galleries and art associations in the Northeast and New York City, along with invitational exhibits at annual Collector Car events such as the Kruse Auction in Auburn, Indiana, the Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, the Hamptons Concours d’Elegance, the Glenmoor Gathering of Significant Automobiles, the Las Vegas Concours d’Elegance, and the Classic Car Club of America annual gathering in Hickory Corners, Michigan. She was the CCCA poster artist for 2005. In April & May of 2006 the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Museum and Kruse Museum in Indiana exhibited her work in a solo show.

A Sample of the show!!!

Hank Meirowitz June 2-June 28th

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_9xWU1WmRSQM/SEgQYwO7mdI/AAAAAAAAAFE/uYFiUPM8DgI/s200/meirowtiz.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5208430986504411602" />
Long time resident of New Milford and New York City, Hank Meirowitz has proven himself in group and solo shows a photographer with a keen eye for texture and pattern, and an enthusiastic manner for whatever subject matter presents itself.

His photographic talent has encompassed an assortment of diverse themes, including babies, tame and exotic animals, rural life, and pastoral scenery, and panoramic views of Russia and other cities in Europe, and now the grandeur and majesty of Arizona and the Grand Canyon and environs.

He has been a Photographer for the Pampered Pet for years and has entertained many four legged friends in his studio on his property for photo shoots or petting session or merely "shooting the breeze." His love of animals is clearly reflected in his one-on-one approach with them. His goal is to the the STATURE and IMPORTANCE of the family pet.

He has shown his works in various libraries and galleries and restaurants in the area, has lectured at camera clubs a schools on his technique in photography and printing, giving new ideas to his audience on cropping, shading, high lights, etc.., to achieve the desired results. He is open to suggestions about improving his work, and is always looking for new venues and subject matter.

His advertising in local newspapers and magazines, with a different pet picture in every ad,; has resulted in a plethora of work with local four legged celebrities. Too him every pet is a STAR, and he makes sure he/she feels that he/she is.

Recently, he completed a one man show at two different libraries on the glories and splendor of Moscow and St. Petersburg, with digital camera and photoshop effects, and met with excellent reviews from newspapers and viewers of his work. It is always gratifying to have new people approach you at receptions and tell you how much they enjoy your work. An artist always enjoys a pat on the back and vote of approval, plus a sale of his work, knowing that it will have a prominent place in a new home.

Hank writes, "This show at the New Milford library is something I truly anticipate, as I just returned from Grand Canyon and had been over whelmed by the beauty and color of the area. Hopefully viewers will feel the same and vicariously enjoy the scenery."

His next shoot will be in Poland and am anticipating an exacting set of images. Andrews is a native of Connecticut, born in Danbury, raised in Brookfield, and living in New Milford since 1976. Following a life-long interest in art and photography, he started exhibiting his work in 2000 with a one-man show at the Grand Patisserie on Main Street in New Milford, Ct. He has recently completed his fifth show there. Since that initial 2000 show, he has been exhibiting extensively in Litchfield and Fairfield counties in one-man shows, galleries, local art associations, contests and various charitable fund raisers. His work has won numerous first, second, third and honorable mention awards locally. The emphasis of the majority of this photography is country landscapes, farms, woods, lakes and all of the varied natural (and sometimes man-made) beauty of northwestern Connecticut. With the acceleration of development in this part of the state, Mr. Andrews writes, "It is great to be able to at least preserve some of these scenes on film."
